META DATA WELCOME

Dear Colleague,

On behalf of IRM UK Strategic Training in the UK and myself thank you for your interest in this, the fourth European Conference dedicated to the subject of Meta Data. This conference has now become an established event due to the extraordinary success of our previous conferences, which attracted hundreds of delegates from all over the world. This conference will again be co-located with the DAMA International European Conference and Information Quality Conferences. This proved an extremely effective and rewarding combination for participants last year and a large number expressed the desire that the conferences be co-located again. We aim to ensure that the joint conference is another wonderful opportunity for those interested in Meta Data, Information Quality and Data Management to meet and exchange experiences as well as to hear top-notch speakers concentrate on this essential area of IT. Participants of last year's conference particularly praised the concentration upon the topic of information management.
We have also continued the successful approach we adopted last year whereby the first day offers you the opportunity to attend tutorials, which introduce the subject of Meta Data and Meta Data Management in some depth and provide a grounding for the following 2 days.

The topics I have chosen for this year's conference have been derived directly from the wishes of last year's participants who requested far more detail on the 'how' and far less on the 'what', now that the conference is well established. The programme we have chosen for you thus provides an unparalleled source of information on meta data management in real life, with examples of the experiences of practitioners. It features a selection of international speakers from both the USA and Europe with a proven reputation both for their ability to inform and educate, but also entertain. This conference will also provide you with an ideal opportunity to meet other delegates with their own problems, experiences and solutions.
We all hope you will join us for what promises to be an exciting and immensely valuable experience. We look forward to seeing you in London in October.

About the META DATA Conference

The theme for this year's Meta Data Europe Conference is The How of Meta Data Management aimed fairly and squarely at the practicalities, problems and solutions for the problems of meta data and meta data management. Just a representative sample of the topics covered include how to

  • establish an information architecture
  • gain better visibility of standardised structures and make sure definitions/diagrams etc. are available across the IT business
  • model data and functions and the interaction between functions and data
  • achieve reusability - of both data and function. In addition, maximise the reuse of business process knowledge captured as part of the integration process
  • manage data and function changes - especially in a highly dynamic environment
  • get buy in from ones organisation (& sustain it)
  • develop appropriate funding models
  • cope with Job losses e.g. DBA's in times of recession
  • change the organisational culture
  • decide the role of data management in an organisation
  • train specialists or older business staff
  • deal with skills shortages
  • educate colleagues
  • choose the right tools for the job
  • choose implement and manage a Repository

We intend that participants of this year's conference go away with new insights into the organisational and technical aspects of this essential area.

INFORMATION QUALITY WELCOME

Dear Information Professional or Manager:

Consider the following fact:

Organizations without strong information quality management are wasting from 10 to more than 20% of their operating revenue or budgets in process failure and information scrap and rework due to poor quality information!

In this time of economic downturn, management is looking for ways to save money. Isn't the best savings to eliminate the costs of waste?
This conference is pertinent for every organization requiring information. But this Conference is NOT for everyone. It is for you if:

  • You do not like to see people and money resources wasted on information scrap and rework
  • You desire to be state-of-the-art in doing things with excellence-not just state-of-the-art
  • You care about your information customers
  • You are willing to be a change agent to help transform your organization for better

If this is for you, please read on. At this conference you will hear from IQ practitioners who's companies have:

  • Saved $75 Billion in costs of information scrap and rework, and expects to save $200 Billion more this year
  • Established IQ as an enterprise Core Competency (manufacturing firm)
  • Trained 60% of their entire management staff in Information Quality principles and management accountability
  • Been ranked number 1 in their industry four times since 1996
  • Plans to train 100% of their employees in IQ
  • Reaped significant benefits from applying Six Sigma principles to IQ

Peter Drucker taught me:

Put your resources on Tomorrow,
       Where the Results are
Not on Yesterday,
       Where the Memories are.

Where is your organization investing-in costs of process failure and information scrap and rework?

Or, in improving its processes to prevent costs of waste from poor quality information

Come. Learn. Do-Be part of the Information Quality revolution.

Sincerely,

Larry English     Larry P. English

DAMA INTERNATIONAL WELCOME

On behalf of DAMA International I want to thank you for your interest is this year's Conference. The overwhelming success of the last two European Conferences encourages us to continue expanding the size and scope of the European Conference to meet your needs. It also prompts us to continue our efforts toward developing a more professional data management discipline.

The theme of this years DAMA International Europe Conference is "The Issues and Concerns of Today's Data Management Professional". It continues to be a time of crisis for the data management profession, particularly with the soft economy and continued layoffs. It's a time for us to redouble our efforts to develop a recognized professional discipline that provides value-added support to the ever-changing needs of an intelligent learning organisation. It's a time for us to earn respect by developing and maintaining a high-quality data resource that meets the business information needs.

The DAMA International Europe Conference is again co-located with the Meta Data Europe Conference and the Information Quality Conference. The DAMA Conference has been expanded to five tutorials and three presentation tracks to offer delegates a total of eight tutorials and five presentation tracks containing a wide variety of data management topics. The increased scope makes this year's Event makes it Europe's premier conference for data management professionals.

This year's Event offers tutorials, keynote presentations, and track presentations on many topics relevant to data management, including a track on frameworks and architectures. The Event features speakers from many countries, with a wide variety of different backgrounds and experiences. The emphasis is on lessons learned, success stories, and viable approaches to data management. I hope that you will join us and other colleagues for a very exciting and rewarding experience at this Event in London.

Any organisation that is truly interested in professional management of their data resource should send delegates to this Event.
