META DATA WELCOME

Dear Colleague,

On behalf of IRM UK Strategic Training in the UK and myself thank you for your interest in the seventh edition of Meta Data Conference, the primary European Conference dedicated to the subject of Meta Data.

This conference has now become an established event due to the extraordinary success of our previous conferences, all of which attracted hundreds of delegates from all over the world.

This seventh edition will again be co-located with the DAMA International European Conference and Information Quality Conferences. This has proved, over the past years, an extremely effective and rewarding combination for participants. We aim to ensure that this joint event is another wonderful opportunity for those interested in Meta Data, Information Quality and Data Management to meet and exchange experiences as well as to hear top-notch speakers concentrate on this essential area of IT. Participants at all our past conferences have particularly praised the concentration upon the topic of information management.

We have also continued the successful approach we adopted over previous years, whereby the first day offers you the opportunity to attend tutorials, which introduce the subject of Meta Data and Meta Data Management in some depth and provide a grounding for the following 2 conference days. This year we have also added a post event Master Tutorial presented by David Marco entitled “Managed Meta Data Environment Full Life-Cycle Roadmap”

The topics I have selected form a balanced mix. Some are case studies others are more generic sessions, some topics are more classic and others deal with modern issues. All of them are presented by independent speakers. The program we have constructed for you provides an unparalleled source of information on meta data management in real life, with examples of the experiences of practitioners. It features a selection of international speakers from both the USA and Europe with a proven reputation both for their ability to inform and educate, but also entertain. This conference will also provide you with an ideal opportunity to meet other delegates with their own problems, experiences and solutions.

Walking in the footsteps of Rosemary Rock-Evans, who has been the chairwoman of six consecutive editions of this conference, is not easy. I hope I do her work justice with this new program.

We all hope you will join us for what promises again to be an exciting and immensely valuable experience. We hope you value the emphasis on the new areas where Meta Data will play a crucial role. We look forward to seeing you in London in November.

About the META DATA Conference

The theme for this year’s Meta Data Europe Conference is Crossing the boundaries. Most classic IT systems have been developed as islands, and are used for data entry. The times have changed. IT systems have to interact with other internal systems, they have to be integrated with systems from business partners. Data is extracted from IT systems and stored redundantly in data warehouses to facilitate business intelligence. We don’t develop islands anymore. This is the era of integrated systems that share data, the era where data crosses system, technical, and organisational boundaries.

The following list provides a flavour of just some of the topics covered by our speakers:

  • Success stories – case studies where meta data management has produced real bottom-line benefits
  • SOA and Meta Data – what is the role of Meta Data when integrating information systems using service oriented architectures
  • BI and Meta Data – Developing a successful Business Intelligence and data warehouse environment require a thorough understanding and management of Meta Data
  • Products – overviews of the new products in the market, the business problems they aim to resolve and their availability
  • We intend that participants of this year's conference go away with new insights into the design, managerial, organisational and technical aspects of this essential area.

INFORMATION QUALITY WELCOME

Dear Professional or Manager:

Increasingly, poor quality information is crippling organizations’ ability to operate intelligently or effectively and is stealing from the bottom line. Consider how much time and resources are wasted in performing your work and decisions.
But you can stop the losses caused by defective information (from 10% to more than 20% of you operating revenue with no mature IQ function) by learning or increasing your knowledge of sound Information Quality Management principles and techniques at The 18th IQ Conference. IQ Conference is the most comprehensive and authoritative conference on information quality in Europe.

Two tracks now better serve your needs, with sessions for those beginning their IQ journey, and sessions to take mature IQ functions to the next level.

Hear:

  • Dr. Joyce Orsini, the world’s leading expert on W. Edwards Deming and his quality and management methods that transformed the economy of the Industrial Age. (The same economic transformation will occur in the Information Age when we apply the same principles to information.)
  • Jane Hooper, Managing Director of Step Change Training addresses problems in communication and how to increase communication effectiveness.
  • John Smart, Managing Partner of Smart Communications describes how to achieve Six Sigma level-information quality in technical documentation.
  • Graham Rhind, leading expert on international name and address quality will provide a full day tutorial to take you into the details and concrete solutions for tackling this difficult and important subject.
  • And much more.

Join the Information Quality Revolution by joining the International Association for Information and Data Quality. Come to the IAIDQ Meeting, Tuesday morning 8:00-8:45am. Visit www.iaidq.org for more details.

Can you afford to miss???

Sincerely,

DAMA INTERNATIONAL WELCOME

Dear Colleagues

On behalf of DAMA International, I am pleased to announce the 2005 DAMA International Europe Conferences 7-10 November 2005. Past European Conference successes have encouraged us to continue expand conference size and scope, while enhancing the topics of the conference. Those past successes help ensure that this will once again be the largest and most authoritative data management conference in Europe.

This year’s theme, "Shaping the Future of Data Management" should be one that becomes a rallying cry for all Data Management professionals. That is, I firmly believe that worldwide events have once again brought the roles of data management to the forefront. For example, information privacy requirements, radio frequency identification tags, finances and unfortunately terrorism have all made data and information widely visible. It is up to each of us then to help shape future of Data Management and therefore our organizations. The conference focus will be on presentations from your peers who have been shaping the future of Data Management in their organizations. And of course, there is the invaluable “networking” during the conference.
DAMA International will host of the several sessions during the conference and will attend the DAMA UK chapter session, so please look for those sessions and join use to see why DAMA International and its affiliated chapters have grown year after year. Of course, if you have any questions before then, please feel free to contact me at president@dama.org.

The DAMA International Europe Conference is again co-located with the Meta Data Europe Conference and the Information Quality Conference. The Event has eight tutorial tracks, six conference session tracks, and three keynote speakers covering a wide variety of data management topics. We have also added this year a couple of post conference tutorials for the Advanced DATA Management Professionals by Graeme Simsion and Alec Sharp. The Event features speakers from a many countries, with a wide variety of different backgrounds and experiences. Delegates will receive a CD-ROM containing all tutorials and all conference track sessions for the entire Event. I hope that you will join us and other colleagues for a very exciting and rewarding experience this November in London,
