META DATA WELCOME

Dear Colleague,

On behalf of IRM UK Strategic Training in the UK and myself, thank you for your interest in the ninth edition of the METADATA Conference, the primary European Conference dedicated to the subject of metadata.

This conference has now become an established event due to the extraordinary success of our previous conferences, all of which attracted hundreds of delegates from all over the world.

This 2007 edition will again be co-located with the DAMA International European Conference and Information Quality Conferences. This has proved, over the past years, an extremely effective and rewarding combination for participants. We aim to ensure that the joint conference is a wonderful opportunity for those interested in metadata, information quality, data modelling, data management and data warehosuing to meet and exchange experiences as well as to hear top-notch speakers concentrate on this essential area of IT. Participants of all our past conferences have particularly praised the concentration upon the topic of information management.

To strengthen this successful formula, last year we added a special track for data warehousing specialists. This track was very well received, and therefore, again we have organised this special track with world renowned speakers who will focus on data warehousing and business intelligence.

We have also continued the successful approach we adopted over previous years, whereby the first day offers you the opportunity to attend tutorials, which introduce the subject of metadata, metadata management and data warehousing in some depth and provide a grounding for the following two days.

The topics I have selected form a balanced mix. Some are case studies, others are more generic sessions, some topics are more classic and others deal with modern issues. All of them are presented by independent speakers. Together, the program we have constructed for you provides an unparalleled source of information on metadata management in real life, with examples of the experiences of practitioners. It features a selection of international speakers from both the USA and Europe with a proven reputation both for their ability to inform and educate, but also entertain. This conference will also provide you with an ideal opportunity to meet other delegates with their own problems, experiences and solutions.

We all hope you will join us for what promises again to be an exciting and immensely valuable experience. We hope you value the emphasis on the new areas where metadata will play a crucial role. We look forward to seeing you in London in October.

DAMA INTERNATIONAL WELCOME

Dear Colleagues:

On behalf of DAMA International, I am pleased to announce the 2007 DAMA International Europe Conferences 28 October - 1 November 2007. This is our 9th European Conference and we are continuing to enhance topics while concentrating on the primary objective of DAMA which is to promote data management excellence. We fully expect that our 2007 conference will once again be the largest and most authoritative data management gathering in Europe.

This year’s theme, "Trends and Tactics in Data Management" will help Data Management professionals learn the techniques, tools, methods, and processes which have been successful for their colleagues and can be implemented in their own organizations. In addition to the many sessions and tutorials, networking with other professional colleagues is often cited as providing high value. You will find that other attendees, along with our speakers, are accessible and willing to share their ideas and solutions. The event features speakers from many countries, with a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences.

Worldwide concerns about privacy, the rise of identity theft, and unethical manipulation of financial and corporate data (and the new levels of governmental regulation that have resulted from this) have served to make data and information issues widely visible. More and more business executives are viewing their data as a critical asset and are launching new initiatives to ensure that this asset is effectively managed. Data Management professionals are once again being called on to lead this mission-critical function.

DAMA International is pleased to host three conference tracks as well as many tutorial sessions. The DAMA UK chapter will have a meeting during the conference and invites interested parties to join this vital and growing chapter. DAMA International and its affiliated chapters have grown year after year with new chapters being formed in Europe, Asia, Africa, and North and South America. More information can be found at www.dama.org or you can email me at president@dama.org.

The DAMA International Europe Conference is co-located with the Meta Data Europe Conference and the Information Quality Conference. The Event has eight tutorial tracks, six conference session tracks, and three keynote speakers covering a wide variety of data management topics. Post conference tutorials will feature two popular speakers. Delegates will receive a CD-ROM containing all tutorials and all conference track sessions for the entire event. I hope that you will join me and your colleagues for a very exciting and rewarding experience starting October 29, 2007 in London.
