Case Study: Architecture On-ramp – Developing the Culture, Knowledge and Vision for Success

The most significant barriers to architecture success are non-technical. Overcoming these barriers is the critical first step in creating an environment for architecture success. At Glaxo Wellcome Research, these environmental challenges were addressed by creating a compelling vision for the future, developing a broad base of architecture awareness and creating an inclusionary culture between architects, IT staff and management.

This session will address the challenges architecture team leaders face at start-up, and provide insight from the Glaxo Wellcome experience.

What you will learn

  • Identifying the architecture speedbumps
  • Selling the vision for architecture in the future
  • Opening the doors for collaborative architecture development
  • Creating the knowledge and awareness across the architecture stakeholder community

Case Study: IT Architecture – one size doesn’t fit all. . .

Most organisations are not a uniform body focussed on a single process, but a collection of groups with perse needs. AWE is an environment where high levels of regulation co-exist with research and development and security. In the past, we have tried to implement a uniform architecture across the organisation, but this has not worked. This talk describes the different architectures we need to accommodate acceptable levels of persity, and how they can interact.

What you will learn

  • The only three things IT can do……
  • The different requirements that exist within an organisation and their associated management styles and architectures
  • Segmenting populations to minimise persity and maximise acceptance.
  • Dealing with real security and how IT fails the test.
  • Possibilities for the future….
