Workshop Outline

This workshop will be interactive, and hopefully fun! Delegates will be encouraged to participate in small facilitated groups to develop their own understanding of EA, build an action list and network with their peers. Using a mixture of presentation and workshop, we will cover:

  • Why do EA?
  • The EA business case - delivering best value
  • Managing EA - governance and roles
  • Delivering EA - engaging with your organisation
  • The EA toolkit - frameworks, methods and techniques
  • Where to get help - resources, publications and groups
  • Developing your EA capability over time
  • Next steps - what will you do after the conference?

A full-day workshop, to get you started in EA, answering the key questions of why should you do EA, what is EA and how to get going. Aimed at organisations who wish to start doing EA, and those who have tried and need to re-think the basics of their approach, this workshop will cover foundational topics and best practice to establish your EA function.

Neil and John are members of the industry-leading Enterprise Architecture practice at Serco Consulting. John is a popular speaker at this conference; comments on his sessions included “Excellent interactive session giving different ideas on implementing EA” and “A very useful and stimulating workshop”

Workshop Outline

This semianr will focus on the recently published Zachman standards which clarify and update the language of the Framework. John will explain the discovery and significance of the classification system he observed in the manufacture of large complex products and the applicability of this to enterprises. He will illustrate the simplicity of the concepts in order to break down a large enterprise into manageable pieces.

John will show how the concentration on the deliverables allows many different methods and techniques to be applied without constraining the architect. He will then work through the significance of the refinements in the new standards. Stan Locke will join John in building the first bridges to Enterprise Implementation with two topics:

  • The Enterprise Framework implementation
  • Why the particular types of industry may dictate the presence of some models

Participants will see how this comprehensive classification system assists with the choice of methods and tools and guides them from strategic analysis to implementations of more agile systems

Workshop Outline

What is Enterprise Architecture? What should it be? What could it be? And most importantly of all: what do you want it to be? The answers to these fundamental questions hold the key to your EA program’s success. Through collaborative peer group working sessions we will bring clarity to EA’s current mission, envision possible EA futures, pinpoint the source of EA resistance, and create innovative solutions to EA’s persistent problems.

Come ready to think, to create, and to collaborate. You are guaranteed to leave this session with a different view of architecture and a new set of innovative ideas to create a more powerful, and successful EA program.

  • Setting a clear EA mission
  • Understanding the world around you
  • Creating a clear vision of the future
  • Creating value today
  • Different thinking for different results

This dynamic interactive workshop is aimed at practitioners of enterprise architecture who have moved beyond the basics. It will stretch your thinking beyond frameworks, blueprints, and patterns to create a new perspective on the role of architecture and how it will succeed in your organization.

Jeff has over 10 years experience of building and managing EA programs in Fortune 500 companies. He is an internationally recognized thought leader in Enterprise Architecture and IT business practices and is a frequent speaker at international technology symposiums and technology management forums.
