Developing Quality Data Architecture for the Data Warehouse
Larissa Moss, Founder & President, Method Focus

One of the most important aspects to every data warehouse project is data management. The goal of data management is to provide clean, consistent, comprehensive and timely information to corporate decision makers. This requires two major efforts: (a) integration of disparate source data from the operational systems and (b) reconciliation of redundantly stored target data in the data warehouse. This seminar offers tips and techniques for data integration, and discusses reconciliation in the extract/transfer/load (ETL) process for target data warehouse databases. In addition, the session compares and contrasts two database design schemas: the two-dimensional relational design and the multi-dimensional star schema design, as they apply to the data warehouse.

This session presents the following topics:
  · Data Warehouse vs. Data Mart vs. ODS
  · Coordinated Data Sourcing (ETL reconciliation)
  · Business Data Modeling
  · Meta Data and Business Rules
  · Two-dimensional vs. multi-dimensional databases

Critical Success Factors for a Quality Data Warehouse
Larissa Moss, Founder & President, Method Focus

It's been reported that 60%-70% of data warehouses fail. There are many political, economic and technical reasons. Common to all these reasons are two factors: (a) not understanding the issues and (b) underestimating the effort to resolve them. This seminar presents all the key issues the data warehouse project team will face, from using an appropriate methodology to managing the product vendors. The session offers the attendees a risk mitigation plan, a checklist of audit and control points, and a list of critical success factors to guide them through their own data warehouse projects.

This session presents the following topics:
  · Data warehouse vs. OLTP
  · Common risks and failures
  · Data cleansing issues
  · Spiral methodology
  · Data warehouse roles and responsibilities
  · Vendor management
  · Critical success factors
