OVERVIEW:
A Message From the Chair Dear Colleague,
On behalf of DAMA International I want to thank you for your interest in this first DAMA International Europe Conference. Our tremendous growth and success with the annual DAMA International Conferences in the United States for the last twelve years encouraged us to begin holding Conferences in Europe. The last five of the U.S. Conferences were co-located with the Meta Data Conference which provided attendees with a wider variety of topics and increased vendor interaction.
This first DAMA International European Conference is also co-located with the second annual Meta Data Conference which was successful last year. Attendees will be able to attend sessions in either Conference with a single registration and will have access to a wider variety of topics. We believe that this co-located European Conference will have the same growth and success as those in the United States.
The DAMA International program offers both tutorials and presentations on a wide variety of topics about data management featuring speakers from both Europe and the United States. The theme of the Conference is ‘Data Management and Evolving Trends’. The emphasis is on approaches, lessons learned, and success stories related to data management support to the organisation in a time of rapidly changing business strategies and rapidly evolving technology.
I hope that you will join us and other colleagues for an exciting and rewarding experience in London this November.
Michael Brackett, President, DAMA International
First Annual DAMA International Europe 2000 Conference – Introduction
The theme of this DAMA International Europe Conference is Data Management and Evolving Trends. The business strategies in most organisations are constantly changing and data management technology continues to evolve. Even with this constant change in the business and technology, the data resource must support the ever-changing information needs of the organisation. The dilemma is that organisations need integrated data to meet their information needs, yet the data resource is becoming increasingly disparate. Organisations must take control of their data resource, use the existing technology for proper data management, and strive to meet the organisation’s information needs.
The Conference is oriented towards the practical aspects of understanding and managing the data resource to support the information needs of the organisation. The emphasis is on approaches, lessons learned, and success stories with current trends in data resource management. The data resource is the foundation for providing the information necessary to support public and private sector organisations. Proper management of that critical resource is mandatory for an organisation to be successful.
The Conference includes two tutorials, two joint keynote presentations with the Meta Data Europe 2000 Conference, and individual track presentations related to data management. These topics, along with the one tutorial and individual track presentations in the Meta Data Conference, provide excellent coverage of the things that need to be done to support an organisation’s dynamic information needs.
